About the Klamath River

The Klamath River flows 257 miles from a broad patchwork of lakes and marshes at the foot of the Cascade Mountains on the California-Oregon border, and winds southwest into California. The river passes through five hydropower dams and the reaches the Pacific Ocean south of the fishing community of Crescent City in California.

The Klamath is recognized as an outstanding whitewater boating river with many class II-IV+ rapids. It typically has warm water and a long boating season. There are many things to do on the river that provides a spectacular and profound river experience.

The river is divided into two parts, the upper Klamath River and the lower Klamath River. Many people will do activities on both parts of the river such as white water upper Klamath River rafting and lower Klamath rafting.

Other popular activities outside of rafting include camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, and scenic four-wheel drive touring.

A lot of people come for the scenery. There are amazing land formations and the water and vegetation create a continually changing landscape as it changes from desert to mountainous. Steep canyon walls covered by a variety of pine, sage and juniper and decorated with basalt outcrops create an exceptionally peaceful experience.
